final prints

project statement:
this project is meant to showcase everyday objects in an abstract point of view. all of these pictures were taken in my house, and they feature different lamps, chandeliers and lights i have throughout my home. i wanted to take something seemingly "normal" and possibly boring, and portray it as something "odd", or interesting.

street photographs

these were all taken at patent pending's free halloween show at the vibe lounge. i was so excited that this project happened to fall at the same time as this show. it's always interesting to see the different kids who come out to see the band, but it was even more so on halloween. i knew the lighting was going to be "strobe" and flashing, and it was dark inside the club so i put my flash on a slower setting. and i was able to capture all of the movement, and the light created these interesting shapes. i wanted to capture a playfulness because that is what the band was all about.

political assignment

my original idea for this project was not able to happen, due to circumstances beyond my control. so i took a literal approach to the "political" aspect. as election day draws near, ive notice millions of these signs around my town, and i think the blues and reds of them  contrast nicely with the green grass and somewhat not as bright background.

landscape assignment

i found this project to be difficult. i'm generally not inspired by landscapes. but as i was driving through a town on saturday, i found this marina. and it just looked so interesting, i was glad to have my camera with me. i really love the way the gray water blends into the overcast sky, and the father and son fishing, because i'd rather be taking portriats. this was a way to combine the two.

sneak preview of portraits.....

!!!

color assignment

the first two photos i played around with the white balance settings; the first one is in daylight mode, the second is shot using tungsten. and finally is the flower, i really wanted to have an extremely vibrant and colorful shot....and this is it. i used macro mode to get really close, so all the details could be seen.

lighting assignment

these three pictures are from my lighting assignment. i chose them because they are somewhat dramatic, the light from the tiffany lamp creates a strong shadow in each of the shots. this gives them an eery feeling, ghost like. as if a person ought to be sitting in the chair.

abstractions

can you guess what these are photos of? it's actually a chandelier hanging in the dining room of my house. i chose these specific photos because they are so abstracted that it is hard to tell what the object actually is. i also love how the chandelier looks when it is turned on, like a planet in space. you are able to see all the textures and it looks almost multi dimensional. i did not think i would enjoy this assignment, but i am loving how these pictures came out!

scavenger hunt

my three favorite photo's from the scavengerhunt! the first photo is taken from a perspective of looking up, making the fire hydrant look gigantic. the colors in the second picture is what drew me to it, and finally in the third photo, it almost looks like it was taken with a fish eye lense. it gives my dog jake a distorted looking face.

first post

my goals are to take really interesting photos, and more importantly step outside my comfort zone.  i want to see everyday things in a new and different light, and take beautiful portraits.
